I admire your courage, intelligence, and intestinal fortitude. Great work on the Camry. :xyxthumbs:
Couple of questions:
1) Are you concerned about the resale value or is it just a matter of ripping out what you built and putting it back together again?
2) How bad is the gas mileage with all that weight?
In any case, you got nads. I look forward to seeing your adventures with the five corrections and then seeing what happens with the truck. Good luck!
Thank you kimtyson!
To answer your quesions I am not worried about the resale value. We built the frame as a bolt on unit to the body and all you have to do is unbolt it, take the frame out, put the seats back in, put putty on the cars bolt holes and it is good to go again! Nothing was destroyed or broken in order to make everything work and that is what I like about it. The car is a 96 so it is really only worth around the mid 2k range. The best thing about it is that it has is a newer engine which has about 90,000 miles on it.
If anything I think I might sell it as a detail car to anyone that is starting out. I had been detailing 5 years prior to this and already had a customer base. Not a bad thing but it picked up faster than I thought so I outgrew this really quick.
Off to the gas mileage, it is actually not that bad. This really surprised me. I usually only put like 40 bucks in the tank and it last me a whole work week and a trip to school. It might also be that all my customers are fairly close to me, about a 8-15 mile distance for most. One thing I did notice is that the weight makes it catch speed pretty quick so most of the time I am just coasting this thing lol.
Very Nice & Unique! I have most of the same Equipment ,only mine is in an Escalade SUV! So you also use the clients electric?
I carry a Coleman powermate Generator. But I really like this idea. Worth putting a patten number on it. I LOVE IT! Lock the idea up so no one steals it and tries to make $$$ off it. If anyone gets paid for it ,you are the one who should!
Thank you! An Escalade or SUV would be perfect for a detail car. You are rolling in style :dblthumb2: As far as now I plug in to my customers power and they dont seem to mind, but there are some customers that are in office buildings or so and dont have access to electric or the outlet is really far. This is why I want to get a truck soon!
As far as any patents I got the idea out here so people can use it. I did not want to make money out of it but we can build people something if they are interested.
The reality is that if you dont have all of the resources this project would cost you a good amount to make. We were at a point where we were almost going to drop the project but then it finally came though. We had all of the spare metal to make this and all of the equipment with us such as saws, drill press, welder, and all that good stuff. I see people put tanks in their cars and I wanted to show people the right and safe way to do it as well. All it takes is a car crash or a car flip and if that tank is not secure it is going to bounce around in the car and cause some serious damage.
