Project Camry- My Mobile Detail Set Up

man ive thought about nearly the same thing with my celica, removing rear seats and making a wood frame and have everything minus water tank and compressor, but i use my back seat sometimes so i threw the idea out, not that i have any clients yet, every one i know is either broke, or does their own cars and don't know a swirl from a squirrel.

Absolutely brilliant! What I admire the most is your determination. All of that effort to support yourself while getting an education is beyond compare. My hat is off to you sir.

Very nice. I love projects like this. Very creative use of the space you have.

It can work out but yeah I miss having rear seats as well. The lady friend thinks its funny, but I remind her that this machine is what ends up buying her dinners and flowers lol.

Thank you very much! This is the perfect business for a student as well especially if you own it. I have a very flexible schedule that helps out when finals come around which is awesome!

Thank you! I wanted to try something different. The start up cost was not that much either. The organization of things took some time to get used too. I had a big container in there with microfibers and chemicals but it took too much room and then I decided to try some crates and those ended up working perfectly!

Thanks Flash! Sure means a lot! And yeah maybe this should be in a James Bond movie. The Camry that can wash itself lol. I am kinda bummed even though I might be getting a truck since I got used to this cars awesomeness and organization. But I cant fit a generator or a compressor in it!! I might as well go over board and drag a trailer with it too Im the MAN

I think Max should start a detailers Hall of Fame/Museum and enter this bad boy.
Simply Incredible :props:

Can't wait to see what you do with the Dakota should that deal follow through :)

Hey man awesome awesome work. I love when people just GO for something. I see sometimes people on here or other forums ask a million questions but never get around to actually DOING or atleast TRYING to do something, but you my friend made it happen. All that homework you did paid off huh :)?

I know the feeling of dragging stuff around in a car...i do my mobile detailing out of a 96' Taurus lol. The one thing i really like about it though is the back seats FOLD DOWN so it can make for a really deep trunk :). I like what you did but ive managed to work out a way to fit everything i need into the car and still have room for me and my sis...so im just saving up for a van right now.

I do have a small suggestion for you though...you said you wanted to put a sign etc on your car to show you do detailing...why not just buy a couple magnetic signs? Put them on once you're outside of your hood, then just take them off before you get home. Then no one will know :)

Ive heard a LOT of people get quite a few inquiries out of just simple signs like that...might help you out some and you can still stay 'under cover' when you're at home :props:

Very creative! It is not your everyday detailing ride.

Thanks Flash sure means a lot. I am sure there are many more members on here too with some crazy detail rigs. My ultimate rig would be a trailer with a full on bathroom and running water!

If the deal goes through with the Dakota I already have a plan up my sleeve. I want this new set up to be low profile since it is going to be under a flat bed cover on the back with locks on it. Going to be installing two low profile 60 gallon tanks on the back and my friend is hooking it up with a Kranzle pressure washer.

I still like my Karcher but I was originally planning on getting this model. I only buy electric pressure washers now and I love them regardless of what some people might think.

I won’t plan anything more until I know the deal is still going on and I can get it on paper. But I can’t wait to have the extra room.

Wills, thank you! I did plenty of homework and I will add that this was the first detail build that I actually got to own! When I worked for my former boss I reconfigured his set up and got some ideas with plumbing thanks to my dad’s experience in irrigation installation.

From my experience Taurus cars have some pretty huge trunks don’t they? At first I was just going to use my customers water, but then some people kind of felt iffy about the idea so I got the crazy idea to put a tank in it. It went from a rinsless wash car to an actual detail car although it is technically not fully mobile since I cannot fit the generator in there!

Thanks for the suggestion! As of now I am waiting to see if I am getting the truck from one of my customers in return for full corrections oh his vehicles. I might have some free space in the garage so if I do get the truck I want to put some nice matte black paint wraps with the business name and website. My neighborhood is not as shady as I make it seem lol but I think I am just a little paranoid when I have to park away from my place.

WHOA!!!!! That is SO AWESOME!!!!

Thanks Mark! Glad you like it!

Very creative! It is not your everyday detailing ride.

Thank you! This car makes people look twice. They are like “all that stuff fits in there!!!??”

I admire your courage, intelligence, and intestinal fortitude. Great work on the Camry. :xyxthumbs:
Couple of questions:
1) Are you concerned about the resale value or is it just a matter of ripping out what you built and putting it back together again?
2) How bad is the gas mileage with all that weight?

In any case, you got nads. I look forward to seeing your adventures with the five corrections and then seeing what happens with the truck. Good luck!

Very Nice & Unique! I have most of the same Equipment ,only mine is in an Escalade SUV! So you also use the clients electric?
I carry a Coleman powermate Generator. But I really like this idea. Worth putting a patten number on it. I LOVE IT! Lock the idea up so no one steals it and tries to make $$$ off it. If anyone gets paid for it ,you are the one who should!

Thank you kimtyson!
To answer your quesions I am not worried about the resale value. We built the frame as a bolt on unit to the body and all you have to do is unbolt it, take the frame out, put the seats back in, put putty on the cars bolt holes and it is good to go again! Nothing was destroyed or broken in order to make everything work and that is what I like about it. The car is a 96 so it is really only worth around the mid 2k range. The best thing about it is that it has is a newer engine which has about 90,000 miles on it.

If anything I think I might sell it as a detail car to anyone that is starting out. I had been detailing 5 years prior to this and already had a customer base. Not a bad thing but it picked up faster than I thought so I outgrew this really quick.

Off to the gas mileage, it is actually not that bad. This really surprised me. I usually only put like 40 bucks in the tank and it last me a whole work week and a trip to school. It might also be that all my customers are fairly close to me, about a 8-15 mile distance for most. One thing I did notice is that the weight makes it catch speed pretty quick so most of the time I am just coasting this thing lol.

Thank you! An Escalade or SUV would be perfect for a detail car. You are rolling in style :dblthumb2: As far as now I plug in to my customers power and they dont seem to mind, but there are some customers that are in office buildings or so and dont have access to electric or the outlet is really far. This is why I want to get a truck soon!

As far as any patents I got the idea out here so people can use it. I did not want to make money out of it but we can build people something if they are interested.

The reality is that if you dont have all of the resources this project would cost you a good amount to make. We were at a point where we were almost going to drop the project but then it finally came though. We had all of the spare metal to make this and all of the equipment with us such as saws, drill press, welder, and all that good stuff. I see people put tanks in their cars and I wanted to show people the right and safe way to do it as well. All it takes is a car crash or a car flip and if that tank is not secure it is going to bounce around in the car and cause some serious damage.

On your tank & pressure washer set up, if you use just gravity instead of 12v pump would your pressure washer still operate?

The only two pressure washers that I know (as of now) can pull water from a lake or static source are the Karcher models and the Kranzle pressure washers.

I am currently running it with gravity feed. I am using the 12volt on a seperate nozzle to fill buckets or to completely drain my tank. It is not required if you buy one of these two pressure washers.

Had a little mishap with Photobucket, I will try to find the files on my comp

I'd really appreciate it bud! I'm working on something similar for my side detailing.
