R.I.P. Twinkie

-Why is it that the CEO of Hostess Brands earned 87 times more per year
than their highest-paid hourly employee?!?!
(And this salary doesn't even include his Benefit Plan, or bonuses.)

-When the hourly employees acquiesced when asked to take wage and benefit decreases of 14%
(this also included having their defined-pension plan becoming a defined-contribution plan instead)...
Why were all executives/managers given an 8% salary increase?

-I understand that many executives/managers fall prey to avarice...
But are they all worthy of "golden parchutes"...à la Jack Welch?

I've ask myself:
Are Hostess Brands' so-called executives/managers deserved of: A "SnowBall" chance in Hades?

IMHO: No.

By the time I got to a supermarket (around 6:00 pm on the day of the announcement), all of the Twinkies were gone. I was hoping to pick up a couple of three 2-packets to have my last taste of a Twinkie. I also thought I might save a 2-pack to enjoy on my death bed when the time came. Since all of the Twinkies were gone, I picked up a 10-pack of HoHos and a bag of powdered sugar Donettes to console myself.

When I paid for them, the cashier said that the Twinkies had been "flying off" the shelves all day long and that some woman bought $60 worth and said she was going to sell them on EBay. How stingy can you get?! Well, what do you expect in SoOC in SoCal????

On my way home, I stopped at the local AM/PM and, believe it or not, there was four 2-packs of Twinkies still on the shelf. I picked up and purchased three 2-packs. I left the fourth one on the shelf so some other poor soul could also have a last taste of a Twinkie.

I know that purchasing 3 out of 4 makes me sound like a glutton, but what can I say. I can provide the address for that AM/PM to anyone who might be interested, but that was last night and it probably wouldn't be there now. By the way, none of mine are for sale at any price. Sorry.Im the MAN

a moment of silence please, i will miss you chocodiles... :(

i sure bet the little debbie brand is happy...

I have searched all our local stores and sadly I have found none - that really sucks.

Hostess is selling their brand aren't they?

Maybe it was "union" employees asking for too much, maybe it was bad management or maybe it was both. Oh well, companies rise and fall every year. It's the natural order of economics.

:hijacked:

Been hooked on these since the mid 90's:

No love for twinkies in my household.

I would like to see the full story.

I am sure the unions did not help the situation but it looks like the venture capitalists also were looking to extract money out of the company (a la Bain Capital method) and then close it down if they could not get the quick cash fix. I do not think they cared if the company continued in operation or not.

I believe the courts will order Hostess to sell off everything including the names and product formulas in order to pay outstanding debts. This is pretty common and I suspect you'll see all our favorite snacks back on the market in a year or so....

LOL - I was wondering why I saw someone trying to sell large boxes of these things on Craigslist. They weren't cheap either lol!

Just another example of how unions have ruined this country. I think it's a good thing the morons that picketed Hostess no longer have a job

This is the problem with the extreme polarization today in this country. I am neither pro-union or pro-big business; they both have their place. When unions go crazy and wreck a company, it ain't right. When executives go crazy and wreck a company, it ain't right. Democrats don't have the right idea about everything, Republicans don't have the right idea about everything, but in the old days Democrats and Republicans, labor and managment, used to be able to come to some sort of common sense, middle-of-the-road accomodation which worked for the country/company. No longer.

It's all about stacking cheddar.
Blue/Red doesn't matter...all about the $$$
I got mine...gotta get yours mentality.

Economists and financial analysts have been predicting gloom and doom since the Reagan years (remember penny stocks/Michael Milken). Something about America not being able to survive as a service economy.

Talk about a sucker being born every second!! :passout:

Well said!

I truly think it does come down to a single word: CREED. Followed by: So Sad

I agree.

Honestly you cant blame either side in this case. Hostess offered what the union considered a reasonable deal. The union advised the employees to vote for it but they refused by a slim margin. So now everyone loses, pretty stupid.

Anybody ever work for a unionized company? Let me tell you, it sucks. I've been on the management side - it's hard to be a successful business.

I worked for a defense firm that used unionized electronics technicians. I do feel some of the union ideas were counter productive, like the seniority rules. They ended up with a lot of older guys with outdated education sitting around collecting large paychecks in order to justify a smaller number of highly qualified and dedicated young union employees making much less despite deserving much more.

On the other hand the technicians at the other plant that were non union were horribly taken advantage of in many ways. Their life sucked.
