Cantankerous (kan-tang-ker-uhs)

Definition: difficult, crabby

Source:Thesaurus.com

Although the hard clear coat of a corvette can me cantankerous to work with, it prevents the paint from being easily damaged unlike other cars thinner clear coats.
Corvette CC...Very cantankerous indeed...Especially some RIDS I'm trying to live with!!! (More on that later).

A girl I work with is very cantankerous, she is oblivious as to why she does not get promotions and finds it easier to be negative, point fingers, and make bad assumptions as to why others advance before her.

-The workplace is often just as petty and territorial as your typical grade school playground, except the children are now supposedly "adults".
-Some adults do realize, though, acting cantankerous in the workplace can't consist of spit-balls and hair-pulling...Yet they seem to strive to entertain by being impolite in their chastisement of others around them.
-These are some of the adults who've sometimes just watched their dreams pass-away. Wonder why??

More on Corvette CC paint film (as promised):

-Some of the "more memorable" swirls, scratches, marring, and RIDS, to our Corvettes' CC paint film, have incurred while we have attended Car Shows/Cruise-ins.

-Nothing is more disturbing to me than to have polished/LSP'd our vehicles (to our expectations) and observe the attendees, and their children, at the above mentioned events:

"Touching"; rubbing; hanging onto open doors/hoods/trunk-deck lids; Leaning on panels with their belt-buckles, and other adornments, banging around in order for them to: "See things better"; children being allowed to climb onto wheels and go: Whheeee!
And so on, and so on. Everybody knows what I'm talking about. :awman:

-As a reminder:
I'm usually of a gentlemanly nature.

-BUT: These are just some of the scenarios that ofttimes arouses my innate cantankerousness...Ergo: My "Red-Neck Behaviorial Patterns" (as suggested by my loved ones and "Doctors").

First:
-I'll politely ask the offenders what they consider their level of literacy might be...Can't they read the: PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH!! placards posted so they are easily seen?? That this plea also applies to everyone in their party...Children included??
-If unable to read, do they have someone with them to interpret this unbeknownst written language??
-If that isn't possible...Then, along with a couple dozen CC's of adrenalin, my pugilistic mannerisms begins. :bash::bash::bash:

Secondly:
-(I once was trained/certified in HazMat; but, since retiring, I no longer attend the yearly, State EPA required, re-certification classes.)
-Therefore, I seek out the sponsors of these various shows/cruise-ins, to tell them of the incidents (if I'm physically able, that is) and hand them a 'written-reasons-flyer' of why others with HazMat training may have to be involved in any clean-up at the events' locations.

Third Most:
-Following is that flyer (at my expense, of course).
{Sourced, in part, from: An old bulletin board posting at college :D)

HazMat Safety Warning:

-Specifically to:
Whomever attempted to dispose of any evidence of fecal matter from their pants; and/or taking the initiative to learn innovative ways to discreetly hide old food product, hell-gravy, and other demonic bacteria---You failed to isolate, and didn't correctly double-bag, your particulates of viscous and biological waste!! Also...All the remains of some evil brown sludge forged in the bowels of road-kill by the Devil himself is laying upon the ground around the garbage-bins you so thoughtfully left unawares. Certainly a death-spill sauce from "Hell-on-Earth".

-To those
that may be involved in the 'garbage detail' of this venue:
There are a few garbage bins that have an odor emanating from them that reeks of a million animal corpses being super-heated from the hottest sun from Hell.
You may find that upon attempting to remove said garbage bags, you may have moments of sheer terror, and may have to overcome the bodily urge to append the hell-spawn and empty your stomachs.

-You'll find
that nothing this horrifying can adequately be written in a million years, by a million different writers, to describe the stench, and furthermore the clean-up, of such a collection of demonic-rot-soup!

-To the HazMat Team:

If your loved ones are awakened by your strange mumblings---punctuated by moments of hideous screaming coming from within your trance-like sleep...Inform them that you're most likely not being murdered, just being haunted in your dreams by what you had witnessed earlier that evening.
____________________________________________________

Sorry to have gone this route...But...YES...That's exactly what I think of my vehicles' antagonists...I do become: A little bit on the cantankerous side, at times, I suppose.

Amalgamation (uh-mal-guh-mey-shuhn)

Definition: mixture

Source: Thesaurus.com

Detailing is an amalgamation of patience, skill, attention to detail, and products, some can make it a seemingly simplistic feat, while others think too hard about the process and allow it to defeat them before they attempt to try it.

An IPA amalgamation consists of IPA and water in the correct dilution which can aid in removing polish and rubbing compound. It is a very cheap alternative to over-the-shelf variants.

Amalgamation (uh-mal-guh-mey-shuhn)

Definition: mixture

Source: Thesaurus.com

In September, 2008, 3M announced that an agreement had been reached to acquire Meguiar's, Inc. This aquisition, according to 3M officials, will help build on, and create an amalgamation of their professional offerings to the automotive industry, and to the enthusiast market for car care products as well, with those offered by Meguiar's.

“Combining with 3M will greatly enhance our ability to serve and support "Car Crazy" people on a global basis,” said Barry Meguiar, president and CEO, Meguiar’s Inc.

IMO...(And not knowing the pertinent details)...
It was understood that Meguiar's, Inc. would retain their autonomy as part of this merger agreement. But wouldn't some of Meguiar's proprietary chemical blends, some that over 100 years old, now be available for: "Easy-pickings" by 3M?

Polysemic (pawl-e-see-muc)

Definition: having more then one meaning; having multiple meanings

Source: Dictionary.com

The word "polish" is polysemic to the detailing world. It can either mean the physical act of correcting paint, yet at the same time it can be referred to an actual product used to fill and correct minor deviations in clear coat. Furthermore, it can be used to describe a product used to "brighten" wheels on a vehicle as well.

Polysemic (pawl-e-see-muc)
Definition: having more then one meaning; having multiple meanings

Not too long ago, there was introduced to the "Detailing Community", a new approach to providing protection for vehicles' top-coat paint film---usually referred to as: Clear Coat...

These new types of 'CC protectors', i.e.LSP's/Sacrificial Barriers were called "Coatings"...And they were hailed as being in a different category than other LSP's such as: Waxes, Sealants, Hybrids.

Reasons were varied for the necessity of a unique categorization for "Coatings". Topics such as:
-Longevity
-Bonding
-Application methods
-"Layering"
-Polishing
-Removal
-Renewal

Were discussed at great lengths...Some people even thought to: ad nauseam.

-And, it seems, due to the onslaught of so many different: "Brands of Coatings", seemingly at the same time; and, each Coating manufacturer, and their marketing machines' hyping the benefits people and their vehicles would receive from using their Coating products; created confusion...confusion on which new Coating one should choose...How to define: Coatings...They do seem to be polysemic, at the very least.

Fast forward to today...

-Why has all the hype for these: New Coating LSP's...almost disappeared. Almost everyday there were threads in their regards. Now they are few and far between. Is there a "new kid on the block"??
If so, why?

-Ask any Ad Executive on Madison Avenue the reasons for this phenomenon in today's Marketing. They'll tell you that:

It's a simple rule of any market.
-The more information, including hype, that is created, the more the value is reduced.
-Further attempts to lure spending with more 'targeted ads' are of little to no avail.
-Consumers, after being bombarded by numerous ads, will seek products and services elsewhere
-These "elsewheres" are search engines and social networks that assist consumers to navigate through the myriad offerings of companies.
-This is where the focus of ads, hype, testimonials, and the like, will then be.
-Creating, and collecting content is not the goal then
-Pointing to content...This is where the real "money-makers" exist.

Perhaps these are the reasons for the recent reduction of Coatings' discussions, perhaps not.

I've come to the conclusion that there will always be the appearance, and the disappearance of: "New Kids on the Block".
Keeping tabs on them, though, is one form of obtaining products' information/value. It also may even provide entertainment value for some observers.

(HHMMMM...Maybe I should start a new Coating thread soon.)

Stay Tuned!

I am glad you appreciate this thread! FUNX725 has been a huge help with keeping this alive, as well as your positive support! Thank you!

Vehemence (vee-uh-muhns)

Definition: intensity

Source: Thesaurus.com

The amount of effort one must put into selecting the correct pad color and correcting compound along with the vehemence that must be applied is dependent on several different aspects. Understanding of the meaning of the products, the understanding of why one would be performing certain procedures and experience are a recipe for a good outcome.

Adulation (aj-uh-ley-shuhn)

-Who enjoys "The Chase" more...Women or Men?

I once pursued a girl with so much vehemence
That a court order said it's time for abeyance.
Then one woman, said I, shant have all my adulation,
So out I ventured, into the world of adulteration.
Where I'd heard there'd never be no misalliance.
