Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?

Sooooooooooooooo, Griot's obviously decided that the DA was too powerful. I'm sure they got many complaints that speed 6 was eating up foam pads.

Anyone who complained about to much power should have their man card revoked

I think I'm going to box mine back up and send it back for a cash refund just out of spite

Now I regret selling mine 2 weeks ago.....

Damn mine doesn't have Professional on the casing. It does however have professional on the box. I haven't used my replaced one long enough with higher settings yet. I'm going have to give them a call. Thanks Mark for giving us heads up.

Here's griot's response to my email.....

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your email regarding our Random Orbital.

Both of these units are the same internally. The only difference is the sticker.

I would say that the reason one of the units is stronger is that the DIP switch was set to a higher and incorrect setting at the factory.

Mark if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me directly!

Thanks,
Kevin.

THOUGHTS??

I just emailed Griot's a link to this thread.

Strange.....
:dunno:

If anyone would be willing to send me their "professional" model to compare, I'l pay shipping. :D

Fat chance!

I will say, the last 3 I've had did not noticeably feel more powerful than the G110v2 or PCXP.

How do we set the DIP switch?

lol

That is funny and it also makes my point in my previous post about pushing technology to its limit... (right or wrong)

One thing I've noticed over the years and actually point out in my how-to book is the evolution of the DA Backing Plate and how we as people tend to push technology to its limit.

One of the reasons there's been an evolution in backing plates is because "people", (that's you and I), tend to push tools, pads, backing plates, products in general to their limit. When we do this... things break.

I asked Griot's if they purposely turned down the DIP switch over the last 6 months to a year, and they said no. Not sure I believe that.

There's a DIP switch in them? Now all you have to do is open one up that's working the way you want. Look at the settings on the switch, & set the 2nd polisher w/ the same settings. I'm suuuure it's that easy. :)

I have no idea what the DIP switch would look like?

Well... if I hadn't had sold mine I would ship it to you if you were willing to pay shipping from Brazil... lol...
I'm pretty much sold on the idea these new one are 500w motor or the 850w motor is modified to provide only about 500w...

I love Griot's, but they sure will have some headache because of this topic and can get a little blur on their image if they don't speak out what's really going on...

What is DIP Switch?

That's what a DIP switch as.

As for the less power being about different internal components, I'd take that route.

I read an interesting book last year Called "Poorly Made in China" by Paul Midler and it was very interesting to read about how a factory wants your contract (and your design!) so will offer you a low price for your initial order.

Then when you come back to place a second order for the same product, they reduce the internal quality of the interior pieces without telling you and if you bring it up their excuse is that they cannot possible manufacture the product at the original quality for the original price anymore.

If you want the original quality it will cost you more.

Thing is, you don't often know that the quality has been reduced until something fails and you discover it's not up to spec. Griots may not even know that the motor isn't the same as originally spec'd.

From my experience working in this industry, the above sounds very accurate.

I'll have to check out that book, thanks Matt for sharing...

:xyxthumbs:

when you pay extra for the 25ft cord , they call it the HD model,
maybe they turn the HD MODEL up all the way ?
Mine eats up pads like crazy , on # 6 .
I like it powerful that way ....

I just called Griots . They said the new model has more torque than the old version.
I don't know . All i know is my unit has random orbital written on it and it is very powerful .
