Rinseless Washes - 2022

I'd be surprised to some degree if Optimum made Griot's RW. I asked Griot's a few years ago about this and they said their benchmark was ONR but it was formulated by them. Griot's likes to formulate in-house.

I don't like RW'ing all that much but when I do I use multiple towels so dirt dropping isn't a problem.

I would rather have dirt release for sure but I scrub my sponge onto the grit guard all the time and wring out real good, I think I'm good

It might not be actual dirt but just staining because even with that stained sponge, the Griot’s cleaned and performed very well. And the drying off is really nice. Kind of like ONR where the stained sponge doesn’t make too much of a difference - it bothers some people but not others.

Just ordered another bottle of ONR as I finally finished my last. Ordered some DIY V2 as well. Wanted a pure polymer around but wanted to try a hybrid formula. Only experience with a surfactant based was the short lived Dodo juice one. Using absolute atm but dealing with the lotiony consistency is a bit of a pain.

We'll never really know, of course. But isn't it possible, after admitting that the Brilliant Finish wasn't a good product, that they were unable to formulate anything better than the "benchmark" and decided "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"? It wouldn't be the first time OPT private-labeled ONR for someone. (That story was revealed on the OPT forum by the OPT rep, so that's not speculation).

OPT always said that the ONR broke down the dirt into such small particles that it penetrated deep into the media and wouldn't release, but those particles were so small that they posed no harm to the finish. My problem with it is once it gets stained, you can't see how much dirt is coming off the panel, so you don't know whether you need to rinse in the middle of the panel, or if the panel's clean (yet). Yes, I know the solution (so to speak) is the multiple-media method, I just haven't been able to get myself to like that yet (haven't found the right media for that--for me).

PS The original rinseless wash, Protect All Quick & Easy Wash (QEW-see links below) stained like a MOFO. The first time I used it I used microfiber towels, and I could tell which ones I had used for years after because the staining didn't come out even after repeated washes...I might even be able to identify them now if I look carefully. As I have related before, QEW is what we used before ONR came out, if anybody was on MOL 20 years ago and remembers Mosca, he did a winter in-the-garage picture tutorial (possibly on Autopia) that was the benchmark (this was before YouTube, before Mike Phillips shot videos with Octane Guy)

I still have an unopened bottle of the brilliant finish rinseless wash that I bought after it was discontinued
Oh boy...I got into a lot of trouble that way. Ask me how many bottles of pre-VOC 845 I have. Not to mention #16.

It's definitely possible that OPT makes GG RW. I just know Griot's is pretty proud of making their own formulations.

Yeah, if I get amped up enough about this, I might have to buy some to compare--if only you could buy an 8oz bottle like ONR.

I once bought a bottle of DG Fast Clean & Shine (FC&S). It smelled just like my Z-6, and worked exactly the same way, so I poured some of each out into little plastic measuring cups. They smelled the same, they were the same color, they even tasted the same. I'm pretty sure they were the same...of course then James Earl Jones showed me his ID, told me they weren't the same, told me I heard the torpedo hit the hull, and that he was never here. Or maybe it was Sal...I can't remember now.

ONR is always a top notch product and is not over hyped like some. Since I use a sponge a lot, I don't like the staining part for some of the reasons you mentioned. When a lighter colored sponge gets dirty, one doesn't know if its new dirt or old dirt or just staining.

Oh and I am with you on buying products - I don't really need any more but I guess that FOMO gets the better of us LOL. "Hey that new product might the the one!" or "Oh its on sale so it ain't too bad." Oh well, at least there's plenty of choices these days (some might say too many choices).

I'm going to skip that one and maybe go for the green if the price is right. I'm not sure how I suddenly got this sponge envy, but I have the Ethos and the USS coming...even though I'm completely against black media where you can't see the dirt. I'm going to blame it on Spring Fever.
I've been using the USS for a while, it's not terrible at seeing dirt. I like the fact I don't need to let it soak in solution. I went back to using the BRS so I could see what I was pulling off the paint.

How old is your bottle of Absolute? Apparently, Dave from P&S altered the formula recently to make it smoother/less chunky.

Holy Throwback !!!! I remember Scottwax was the "poster child" for QEW back in the day. You are right though that stuff stained towels like nobody's business. Remember the Aquawax/Z8 debates lol? They were almost as good as the S100/P21S carnauba ones lol

Honestly I don't remember Scottwax using QEW, I was a little late to the party at Autopia, only joining in 2004. But it makes sense since he became a big ONR user (I think?) later. And I tried to start a FC&S/Z-6 debate--I think in this thread!

2-3 years old

I've yet to try the latest version, but the chunkiness has apparently been solved. It is also supposed to hold its color now. If you look at the marketing shots, they depict a bluish tone, but I've only known it to be white.

I appreciate you reiterating mine and others complaint about the Idrosave being a terrible media stainer. The fact that you say the GG stains the media just reinforces my conspiracy theory that it's just relabled ONR. When the Guz reviewed it he looked at in the measuring cup, smelled it, and said it's "very ONR-esque". Without having tried it myself, the fact that it looks like ONR, smells like ONR, stains like ONR, and is labeled to soften your conventional wash like ONR...I say it's ONR.

I doubt it. Griots pride them selves on manufacturing all their own chemicals. With being able to manufacture there own chemicals and spreading making 2 current and one previous it’s probably not ONR. A copy? Possibly.

I agree. They're not gonna give someone else a cut of their profits if they don't have to. ONR may very well have been one of their benchmarks.

Maybe they found that they couldn't make the "benchmark" for any cheaper than buying it from OPT. Or maybe they are having capacity problems in their manufacturing facility and don't want to expand it or hire more people, so they decided it would be simpler to outsource it. They seem to have no problem giving microfiber towel manufacturers a "cut of their profits", or the people that make other stuff for them.

Any chance we know who makes their PFM towels? I could live and die happy with those and the Gyeon towels... but costs reflect that too
